Issue Position: Protecting Americans and their Privacy

Issue Position

Veterans

The American people have a covenant with our veterans -- one that Ron believes we are duty-bound to keep. Throughout his career, Ron has worked to honor the sacrifices of our veterans by promoting veterans hiring, fixing the problems at the VA, giving veterans access to greater health care choices, and making sure that mental health and suicide prevention services are made readily available to those returning from combat. Ron has particularly fought to ensure that members of the Guard and Reserve receive the same benefits as all other combat veterans.
Protecting Privacy

For many years, Ron has been at the forefront of the fight to shut down the NSA's warrantless surveillance programs and protect the rights of law-abiding Americans. Ron believes strongly in your right to privacy and has never been afraid to go toe-to-toe with federal agencies to make sure our rights are respected and protected.

Ron was one of the first to sound the alarm on government abuse of the Patriot Act to surveill millions of law-abiding Americans. Last year, he succeeded in passing legislation to finally end this collection of law-abiding Americans phone calls.
America's Place in the World

Ron believes that America must lead the world by building consensus, promoting human rights, and tackling climate change. In trade, America can create prosperity at home by leveling the playing field for American businesses and workers so that we can make things here and sell them around the world. Ron was one of just 23 U.S. Senators to vote against the war in Iraq and has worked for years to resolve conflicts and bring peace to the Middle East.
