Issue Position: Seeking bipartisan solutions and compromise for improving our state's transportation infrastructure

Issue Position

I hate paying taxes as much as anyone, and I would prefer not to raise them. Both parties understand that we must address our infrastructure needs, which is why our General Assembly needs to work together to come up with a bi-partisan solution. In 1982, President Ronald Reagan joined with Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill (D-MA) and Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker (R-TN) to pass The Highway Revenue Act of 1982, which increased gasoline taxes by $3.3 billion in order to pay for highway improvements. That was back when the parties would work together to find common ground and solve problems.

My opponent has chosen to sign a "No Tax Pledge" from a notoriously divisive and polarizing Washington D.C. lobbyist. It's a campaign ploy that effectively outsources the decision making process to some of the same people who are responsible for turning our federal government into a stalemate of inaction. Delawareans deserve legislators who are willing to roll up their sleeves, do the hard work, and make tough choices if necessary. If our Founding Fathers had signed the same "No Tax Pledge" as my opponent, I guess we'd still be traveling on dirt roads and educating our children by candlelight.
