Adriano Espaillat's deep commitment to affordable housing stems from his roots as a tenant organizer. He still goes door to door, building to building, to fight for better living conditions and to keep housing affordable. In Albany, Adriano fought for stronger rent laws to protect 2.5 million tenants and is a strong supporter of the Tenant Protection Unit, which has returned 50,000 units to affordability. Access to safe and affordable housing remains the top economic challenge for upper Manhattan and Bronx families, as rents continue to rise. In Washington, Adriano will work to bring funding for new affordable housing back to our neighborhoods. Adriano believes we must take immediate action to protect residents who are at risk of being displaced, to ensure that the district's growing prosperity does not leave working and middle class tenants behind.

A key part of Adriano's housing plan is a historic reinvest in our public housing. New York City Housing Authorities' buildings are in desperate need of repair. In Albany Adriano fought to bring $100 million to NYCHA, and for the state to once again make a sustained investment. He will bring that fight to Congress and get Washington to reinvest in public housing and build a better future for the Authorities 400,000 tenants.
