Van Hollen, Ruppersberger Tour Aberdeen Proving Ground

Today Maryland Congressmen Chris Van Hollen and Dutch Ruppersberger toured Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) to discuss the base's impact on national security, the region's economy, and Maryland's competitiveness.

"Aberdeen Proving Ground has had an enormous impact on Maryland's economy and our national security for generations. I was pleased to have a chance to tour the base and discuss ways to continue to keep the base and the region thriving," said Congressman Van Hollen.

"I am always impressed by the talent and ingenuity of the soldiers, civilians and contractors at Aberdeen Proving Ground, who develop and test technology to save lives and prevent injuries for our men and women serving on the frontlines," said Congressman Ruppersberger. "APG has seen tremendous growth and that progress is only going to continue. It is an honor and responsibility to help leadership plan for the future, navigate the uncertainties in the defense budget and ensure our military families enjoy an excellent quality of life."

Aberdeen Proving Ground is one of the largest employers in Maryland, supporting 24,000 jobs statewide and generating $1.8 billion in economic activity within the state. Van Hollen and Ruppersberger received a tour from Major General Bruce T. Crawford, were briefed on cutting-edge cybersecurity and tactical technologies, and visited the Automotive Test Evaluation Facility. They discussed ways to further the base's mission and promote research and development activities that have helped our troops abroad safely carry out their missions.
