The Hill Report: Week of July 4 - 7, 2016

Statement

Date: July 11, 2016

On Thursday, July 7, 2016, the people of Dallas were shaken to the core with the tragic shooting and deliberate targeting of our local law enforcement officials. During a peaceful protest in downtown Dallas, police officers who were supporting and protecting members of the community who were peacefully assembling were met with unwarranted, deliberate violence. I am deeply saddened by these events and find it disheartening to know that there are people who want to bring harm to the men and women who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect our families and communities.

As we continue to learn more about these vicious acts, I pray that the Dallas community joins together to work through this difficult time. I know that we have a vibrant, loving community across North Texas who will join together in support of the men and women in blue. While these horrific acts have left inerasable scars, we will not rest until we bring to justice the criminals who tried to destroy the values and spirit of our community.

This weekend I will be meeting with city officials, local leaders, and local law enforcement agents to learn more about this devastating situation. I applaud the leadership of Dallas Police Chief David Brown, Mayor Mike Rawlings, and all of the Dallas city officials and leaders who have remained steadfast and strong throughout this entire situation.
