Sessions Supports Measure to Streamline Labeling Regulations

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions, Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, released the following statement after supporting a bill to establish a coherent national labeling standard for bioengineered food:

"Our current patchwork system for GMO labeling has created confusion and uncertainty for small businesses, producers and other individuals in the agriculture and food industry who operate across state lines. Today's passage of the Senate amendment to S.764, GMO Labeling Requirements, is a positive step toward streamlining regulations while ensuring Americans know more about where their food comes from and how it is produced. This free marketplace solution creates a uniform national policy that creates more opportunities for producers and processors to continue to innovate and grow their businesses, and ensures Americans have access to accurate and necessary information about what they are feeding their families."
