Sessions Votes to Fund Department of the Interior, Cut Red Tape

Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of a bill making appropriations for the Department of the Interior, environment, and related agencies for fiscal year 2017:

"The bill that passed the House today strikes a balance between ensuring sacred natural resources in the United States are protected and reducing the amount of red-tape harming our struggling economy. It is of great importance for Congress to provide funding for fighting wildfires and addressing lead in drinking water, yet still rein in the bureaucratic overreach all too common under this administration. I proudly voted to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from overstepping its bounds by implementing more job-killing regulations, and supported holding the agency at its lowest staffing levels since 1989. This legislation would responsibly reduce spending from the last fiscal year and preserve America's natural and cultural heritage."
