Sessions Applauds Passage of POLICE Act

Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions, Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, released the following statement applauding the passage of a measure that provides police officers with more flexibility to use grants for necessary active shooter training:

"Last week in my hometown of Dallas police officers were put in a deadly situation when what started out as a peaceful protest turned to the deadliest day for police officers since the tragic events on September 11th. After meeting with the Police Chief and other members of the law enforcement community, I learned that while our officers followed protocol they need more resources to prepare for such attacks. We cannot let the men and women who selflessly put their lives on the line stand in the face of danger without every possible advantage. I am pleased that the House passed a measure from the Senate that enables policemen to provide officers with more flexibility to use funds from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Service for active shooter response training. Our law enforcement officers bravely defend us day in and day out and we must do our part to ensure we protect those who protect us."
