Cramer: House Votes to Send Defense Authorization Bill to Conference

Statement

Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement after today's vote by the House of Representatives to send the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 to conference. The vote sends to a conference committee of House and Senate members the Senate version of the bill, S. 2943. The House version of the bill is H.R. 4909, which passed the House in May.

"I am pleased this bill has been sent to conference. One of the most important responsibilities Congress has is to ensure our national security personnel have the resources necessary for the common defense of the United States. North Dakota's Air Force Bases and National Guard are critical in this effort so I've worked to make sure their needs are addressed in this bill. This includes two amendments I co-sponsored, one to replace the Vietnam-era UH-1N (Huey) helicopters at Minot Air Force Base and another to support the responsiveness or alert level of U.S. intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM). I encourage the Senate to also vote to go to conference and the conferees to then move quickly to resolve the differences and deliver a final bill for passage this fall."
