Congressman Kevin Cramer issued the following statement about today's release of a 150-page Joint Report on the Obama Administration's illegal repurposing of $7 billion in health care dollars to shore up Obamacare insurance plans. The report was issued jointly by the House Committees on Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce.
"This report confirms what we already know -- that Obamacare is functionally broken. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act did not -- and still does not -- provide funding for the cost-sharing reduction program. The Administration knew that. Internal Administration memoranda acknowledged that fact. Actions taken by the Administration in 2012 and 2013 demonstrated that fact. Many questions about this illegal funding remain unanswered because the Administration cited privilege exceptions that did not exist, redacted and withheld documents, ordered witnesses not to answer questions and did not deliver subpoenas to witnesses. This report is yet another pathetic example of the Obama Administration showing complete disregard for the Rule of Law. Through Congressional oversight, we must continue to do everything in our power to expose the ongoing obstruction this Administration has decided to pursue. This goes beyond politics. We are talking about a transparent government. If our executive branch cannot follow the Rule of Law, then what authority does anyone in this country stand on? There is an oversight hearing tomorrow on this unprecedented level of deliberate obstruction, and as a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will be attending."
