Today, Josh Gottheimer, candidate for Congress in New Jersey's 5th District, condemned the actions Tea Partier Garrett and his fellow the House Freedom Caucus members for holding hostage Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and his package of counter-terrorism legislation.

Earlier this week, Speaker Ryan was forced to delay his counter-terrorism legislation after Garrett and the House Freedom Caucus voiced opposition.

Garrett is one of the founding nine members of the House Freedom Caucus. The Caucus is known for their extreme ideological views, frequent obstruction of the Republican Party, and attempts by leadership to work across the aisle.

"True to form, Scott Garrett has put his Tea Party agenda ahead of protecting our families from terror," said Gottheimer. "While Speaker Ryan is trying to move the ball forward, Tea Partier Garrett and the rest of the House Freedom Caucus are busy standing in the way of bipartisan progress, including Speaker Ryan's counter-terrorism legislation. When I'm in Congress, I will work across the aisle, putting progress ahead of partisanship and the security of our families first."
