Ayotte Applauds Final Passage of FAA Extension Agreement

Chair of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety and Security U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today applauded the Senate's passage of the final agreement to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through fiscal year 2017. The current authorization expires on Friday.

"Securing our airports and protecting American travelers around the world is critically important," said Senator Ayotte. "Today's agreement includes several provisions I fought for that will help better protect American travelers, and I'm encouraged by our bipartisan work to get this done."

While the agreement is not as extensive as the legislation the Senate passed earlier this year, the package contains several Ayotte-led measures, such as a provision to ensure the FAA hires qualified air traffic controllers. Additionally, the agreement features Ayotte priorities such as third-class medical certification reform, which will strengthen and streamline pilot licensure requirements, as well as provisions to protect privacy while improving the safety of the operation of unmanned aircraft systems.
