Issue Position: Energy and the Environment

Issue Position

Michael supports a comprehensive energy approach for Colorado that will help move the nation toward energy independence, while protecting the environment, our natural resources and Colorado's public lands.

Michael believes we need to change how we fuel our economy -- that's why he's fighting to invest more in renewable energy. That includes expanding hydropower development and extending tax credits for wind and solar energy, which support thousands of Colorado jobs. Michael supports growing Colorado's liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry and has worked to ensure LNG is exported safely. Michael also wrote legislation that incentivizes states to invest more in clean energy technology.

Michael is fighting to preserve our clean water and air quality, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, take on global climate change and ensure that we protect the beauty of Colorado for the next generation. As ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry and Natural Resources, Michael is uniquely positioned to protect Colorado's many natural treasures.

Michael is fighting to protect Colorado's natural resources in the Senate and worked to designate Browns Canyon and Chimney Rock as national monuments. He also worked with Republican Congressman Scott Tipton to pass a law protecting more than 100,000 acres of the Hermosa Creek Watershed, one of the only wilderness protection laws passed in the last five years.

Michael has been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters and Ocean Champions and been named a "Clean Air Hero" by the National Resources Defense Council.
