Dear friend,
Happy Independence Day! I hope that you, your friends and loved ones are enjoying a safe and fun Fourth of July. Today, as we celebrate our nation's 240th birthday with barbecues, picnics and fireworks, we should all take a moment and give thanks to the brave Americans who have sacrificed to preserve our nation and protect the freedoms we hold dear.
I'm celebrating Independence Day at a naturalization ceremony in Portsmouth this morning. I can think of nothing more inspiring than welcoming nearly one hundred new citizens into our American family. We are a nation of immigrants. We are one people. And what unites us as one people -- what makes us American -- is our shared belief in democracy, freedom, hard work, and the rights and dignity of every individual.
I wish you a very happy Fourth of July!
