U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, on Thursday announced she and Reps. Tom MacArthur, R-N.J., and Donald Norcross, D-N.J., introduced legislation to authorize the United States and Israel to share costs of collaborative research and development of "directed energy capabilities" missile defense systems.

Directed energy uses beams of concentrated electronic or atomic or subatomic particles.

"Israel is our greatest ally in the Middle East, and through greater cooperation we can more effectively combat threats facing our two nations," Stefanik said in a press release.

The legislation-- HR 4810 -- is similar to a 2014 U.S./Israel agreement concerning procurement of "Iron Dome" short-range, air defense systems, according to the press release.
