Gianforte Calls Out Bullock for Not Supporting Forest Reform Efforts

Greg Gianforte took the governor to task following the news Wednesday that Montana would be losing another 100 jobs in the state's timber industry.

In response to the layoffs at Weyerhauser's mill in Columbia Falls, Governor Steve Bullock shifted the blame from his own failed leadership by blaming the "federal government's failure to do its job."

Bullock's newfound criticism of federal policies was hardly overlooked by Greg Gianforte. From timber policy, to coal, the Endangered Species Act, and Syrian Refugees- Gianforte says Bullock has shown a pattern of failing to stand up against federal overreach. Gianforte asked, "If the governor thinks the feds have failed to do their job- then why hasn't he supported comprehensive federal land management reform bills?"

GIANFORTE: This Governor has failed to stand up and support efforts by our Congressional Delegation, specifically Congressman Ryan Zinke and Senator Steve Daines efforts to bring about federal land management and forest reform. We need a governor who will work with our Congressional Delegation towards meaningful reform. As it stands right now, the Bullock Admin isn't very different from the Obama Administration on timber policy.

Gianforte also addressed today's Supreme Court decision that struck down President Obama's executive order granting amnestyto certain undocumented immigrants.

GIANFORTE: Thankfully, the rule of law and separation of powers has been upheld. I commend Attorney General Tim Fox for his strong fight against Obama's illegal executive order, and his willingness to stand up to federal overreach. The President does not have the authority to write the law by himself.
