Congressman Heck's Campaign Tries to Say He's Against Privatizing Social Security, Then Immediately Reiterates Support for Privatizing It

We'll give him credit -- this might be one of the first times Congressman Heck has mentioned Social Security and NOT compared it to a criminal enterprise. Of course, this apparently came from one of his Washington handlers, not the Congressman, so we guess his record of consistently calling a program Nevada seniors rely on for their retirement security a "pyramid scheme" is still intact. Anyway, we digress.

Yesterday evening, in response to a new ad slamming Congressman Heck for accepting more than $300,000 from Wall Street after sponsoring a tax cut for the Big Banks who crashed our housing market -- while also wanting to put the same people who crashed it in charge of Nevada seniors' retirement security by privatizing Social Security -- Congressman Heck's campaign put out a breathless statement that should embarrass the Congressman if he in fact has any shame left after he promoted debunked conspiracy theories about Sharia Law.

In the breathless release from the Heck campaign, Congressman Heck's handlers actually tried to say that he does not support privatizing Social Security, and then immediately said he essentially supports the privatization of Social Security.

"Congressman Heck's Washington handlers did more contortions than an Olympic gymnast in trying to defend his record of putting Wall Street and the Big Banks ahead of Nevada families," said Zach Hudson, spokesperson for Catherine Cortez Masto for Senate. "First Congressman Heck's handlers falsely say he does not support the privatization of Social Security -- then they immediately say he does support putting the retirement security of Nevada seniors in the hands of Wall Street. Regardless, the choice for Nevada seniors is clear: Catherine Cortez Masto took on the Big Banks as Attorney General and will protect Social Security for Nevada seniors; Congressman Heck sponsored a tax break for the Big Banks and thinks Social Security is a "pyramid scheme' that needs to be privatized."
