'Prone To Fraud And Ripe For Manipulation'
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) released the following statement in response Secretary of State Eric Clark's announcement that the State spent more than $15 million on electronic voting machines:
"I am deeply concerned about the State's [Mississippi's] use of electronic voting machines that CANNOT verify vote totals with a written paper trail. Can you imagine how prone to fraud and ripe for manipulation voting machines that will not produce paper copies of the results can be? There is no question that by using these voting machines, the potential for voter fraud will increase, with no record or copies to defend a challenge of the results.
"The voters of Mississippi realize that this change could lead to a modern-day form of voter disfranchisement. The people of Mississippi are entitled to and deserve the best and fairest election process possible. They certainly have earned it."
