Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, who lost their lives this week during encounters with law enforcement officials:

"The deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of police officers in Louisiana and Minnesota are just the most recent devastating examples of lethal force used against black men in America. We are still learning the facts about each case, but we don't need to lose another life for our nation to realize that "justice for all" remains an unachieved goal in our country. The awful frequency of these tragedies reveals a problem of systemic racism. We must confront the inequality that still pervades our society and take urgent action to reform a badly broken system."
