No Bill, No Break

Statement

Date: June 23, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

I joined my Democratic colleagues standing on the steps of the Capitol, and holding a sit-in on the Floor of the House to make a simple appeal to Speaker Ryan and House Republicans -- that Congress shouldn't leave town before holding a vote on legislation to address gun violence.

Republican Speaker Paul Ryan turned the cameras off and turned the microphones off, but House Democrats will not back down until the Republican Congress gives the American people a vote on legislation to strengthen background checks and keep guns out of the hands of terrorists and criminals.

We cannot be silent. We must take action for the victims of gun violence.
