Governor Hassan Ceremonially Signs Ten-Year Transportation Plan at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

As part of her efforts to build a stronger, more modern transportation infrastructure that spurs economic growth and helps New Hampshire's people and businesses grow and thrive, Governor Maggie Hassan today ceremonially signed the Ten-Year Transportation Improvement Plan for 2017-2026 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS).

"Continuing to strengthen our transportation infrastructure is critical to the success of our people and businesses, helping to spur economic development and boost our economy," Governor Hassan said. "The Ten-Year Transportation Improvement Plan builds on our work together over the last few years to strengthen our transportation infrastructure, and I am proud to have signed this bipartisan bill into law so that we can advance critical transportation projects. In addition to beginning the first phase of widening the portion of Route 106, which is critical for access here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, this plan also ensures that we maintain and preserve existing roads and bridges, complete the widening of Interstate 93 and accelerate construction of Exit 4A in Londonderry and Derry, among other important goals."

The Governor officially signed the ten-year plan on June 23, 2016. The final plan includes increasing funding for red-listed bridges and bridge preservation; completing the widening of Interstate 93; beginning the first phase of widening Route 106 in front of the New Hampshire Motor Speedway to 2018; accelerating construction of Exit 4A in Londonderry and Derry to 2019; and resurfacing an additional 200 miles of roads per year and replacing or rehabilitating an additional 23 red-listed bridges. The plan also focuses on preserving good roads now to avoid more expensive projects later.

Earlier this year, Governor Hassan and New Hampshire Department of Transportation Commissioner Victoria Sheehan announced -- and the Executive Council approved -- $200 million in federal funds from a Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) loan from the United States Department of Transportation. The long-term, low interest federal loan -- which is backed by the bipartisan transportation funding plan that Governor Hassan signed in 2014, Senate Bill 367 -- allows the State to complete the remaining construction of Interstate 93, fix 23 Red List bridges across the state and pave nearly 1,100 additional miles of State roads through the Ten-Year Transportation Improvement Plan for 2017-2026.

In addition, Governor Hassan helped kick off race season at NHMS, with NASCAR coming to the Granite State for the New Hampshire 301 NASCAR race weekend later in July.

"The New Hampshire Motor Speedway is critical to our economy, and race season is always a special tradition in New Hampshire," Governor Hassan said. "As we take this important step to strengthen our transportation infrastructure today, I am also proud to highlight the importance of the New Hampshire Motor Speedway to our state, kick off race season and welcome the thousands of fans who will visit the Speedway this year."
