Governor Hassan's Statement on Executive Council Approval of Grant to Continue Supporting Youth Violence Prevention Initiative

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on today's vote by the Executive Council to support a $50,000 grant for the state's public-private Youth Violence Prevention Initiative through Media Power Youth:

"By helping parents, educators and young people understand media's role in influencing behavior with its evidence-based approach, Media Power Youth is making schools and communities across the state safer. I am proud that we came together across party lines in the past two budgets to support violence prevention grant funding, and I commend the Executive Council for its bipartisan vote to continue this public-private initiative that is playing an important role in our ongoing public and school safety efforts."

The previous two grants with the Office of the Attorney General enabled Media Power Youth, a Manchester-based nonprofit and expert in media literacy, to reach schools and districts representing more than 200 communities with its evidence-based curriculum aimed at helping reduce and prevent youth violence.
