Governor Hassan's Statement on Signing House Bill 1396

Statement

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after today signing House Bill 1396, relative to off-highway recreational vehicles (OHRV) operation on certain highways in Grafton County and establishing a commission to study OHRV usage and the allocation of law enforcement and emergency response resources and responsibilities:

"Riding off-road vehicles is a great way for visitors and Granite Staters to explore our awe-inspiring natural beauty and to experience one of the many exhilarating outdoor recreational activities offered in New Hampshire. By allowing off-highway recreational vehicles to operate on certain highways in Grafton County, House Bill 1396 enhances the riding experience by making trails more accessible while helping to drive business to shops, restaurants and other properties in Grafton County, strengthening our travel and tourism industry. In order to keep our riders and communities safe while ensuring that we protect the natural resources that are critical to our state and this important industry, this bill also establishes a commission to study OHRV usage and the allocation of resources to law enforcement and emergency first responders. I am proud to sign this bipartisan measure into law to help make OHRV riding in New Hampshire an even more enjoyable experience, to boost our travel and tourism industry and to spur economic development in the region."
