Governor Hassan's Statement on Signing Bill to Support Federal Border Patrol Agents

Statement

Date: June 20, 2016
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after signing House Bill 1298, relative to the authority of federal border patrol agents to make arrests in Coos County, at a ceremony in Berlin on Friday:

"Despite facing unique challenges due to the geographic expanse of the region and interaction with our Canadian border, our local and state law enforcement officers in the North Country put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities and our state safe. Oftentimes, our public safety officers in the North Country receive critical assistance from federal border patrol agents who lack legal protections when responding to incidents outside of federal jurisdiction. House Bill 1298 creates necessary protections so that border patrol agents can continue providing critical assistance to help keep our North Country communities safe, and I am proud to have signed this bipartisan measure into law."
