Statement from Governor Hassan on Signing Bipartisan Drug Take-Back Bill

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after today signing House Bill 1490, relative to collaborative practice between pharmacists and health care practitioners and relative to certain drug take-back programs:

"The heroin and opioid crisis is the most serious public health and safety challenge facing our state, and recognizing that it stems in part from the overuse, misuse and abuse of addictive prescription opioids, we have been working to improve provider training and prevent the overprescribing of opioids. House Bill 1490 takes an important step to build on those efforts, allowing pharmacies the option of offering registered drug take-back programs.

"Drug take-back programs can help promote the proper disposal of expired, unused or unwanted medicine, and this bipartisan bill will give Granite Staters more options to safely dispose of addictive prescription opioids. Giving pharmacies the option of creating drug-take back programs will help build on our efforts to prevent the misuse of addictive prescription drugs, and I thank legislators from both parties and advocates for their efforts on this bipartisan bill."
