Governor Maggie Hassan knows that a woman's right to make her own health care decisions is a matter of freedom, and it's also a matter of economics. When women have to pay more for their healthcare -- including paying out of pocket for contraception -- or aren't given the freedom to decide when to start a family, it creates a significant economic strain.
Maggie has always fought to expand economic opportunity for women and families, and she was proud to sign New Hampshire's Paycheck Fairness Act to ensure that women receive equal pay for an equal day's work. She also strongly supports efforts to expand paid family leave to ensure that workers are able to support their families during times of need at home.
As Governor, Maggie restored family planning funds and has strongly opposed efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and block access to preventative care, cancer screenings and birth control.
Maggie believes that it's unacceptable that politicians in Washington are still playing politics with women's health. In the Senate, Maggie will fight to protect a woman's right to make her own health decisions and to safely and affordably access health care. That means standing up to those seeking to defund Planned Parenthood, protecting health coverage that includes contraception, supporting efforts to make reproductive health services more affordable and accessible and fighting against efforts to undermine Roe v. Wade.
