Senate Passes Sean Duffy's Plan To Fix Puerto Rico Debt Crisis

Today, the Senate passed Sean Duffy's (WI-07) plan to address the Puerto Rico debt crisis -- the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA) -- with a bipartisan vote of 68-30.

Earlier in June, the House passed PROMESA with a bipartisan vote of 297-127.

PROMESA received support from a "majority of the majority" in both the House and Senate.

"When I started working to fix the Puerto Rico debt crisis, I knew it wouldn't be easy, but we built a bipartisan coalition to help the three and half million Americans who have been suffering under the weight of bad financial decisions by leaders who made promises they couldn't afford or keep," said Congressman Duffy. "That's why I'm so appreciative of my friends in the Senate for working quickly, in a bipartisan fashion, to address this crisis. When PROMESA is signed into law, it will signal a new beginning for financial responsibility in Puerto Rico. The Oversight Board and Congressional Task Force on Economic Growth will promote budgets that balance and economic opportunity for the good and hard-working Americans living in Puerto Rico."
