Transgender Restroom Directive an Overreach of Power

Following President Obama's recent directive on transgender restroom use, Matthew Corey, candidate for U.S. Congress (Connecticut - District 1), made the following statement:

"The Obama administration's directive on transgender restroom use is not the issue, this isn't about civil rights. This is yet another example of federal overreach. The President has once again turned the Executive Branch into a Legislative Branch. If the President wanted to be a lawmaker, he should have remained a Senator. This is another opportunity for the President to divide a nation and distract from the failed policies that have hurt this country.

Allowing special use of restrooms and showers to children and adults is going beyond what our Federal Government was designed for, and is wrong on many levels. Asking young children from ages 8-10 years old if they identify as a girl or a boy is out of the normal realm. Children that age can't decide what clothes to wear or what to eat for lunch on any given day. Parents need a voice on behalf of their children's safety.

What is most disturbing is that our Congressional delegation allows this Federal overreach by the Executive Branch. Even worse is the unelected bureaucrats from the Department of Education and the Department of Justice following suit. We need to advocate to abolish the Federal Department of Education and return power back to the states and local governments. Once again, we see our do-nothing Congressman fail to represent his constituents. Allowing the Federal Government to threaten to withhold federal funding in schools through an Executive action or through the Department of Justice shows you how out of touch our current leaders and representatives in Washington are."
