Tammy Duckworth on Supreme Court Striking Down Texas' Unconstitutional Attempt to Restrict Women's Health Services

Statement

After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt this morning, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth's (IL-08) issued the following statement:

"The Supreme Court guaranteed a woman's right to choose 43 years ago in Roe v. Wade, helping move our country beyond the dark ages of unsafe back-alley procedures that needlessly threatened women's lives," said Congresswoman Duckworth. "But that hasn't stopped some from trying to undermine that constitutional right at every turn, crafting legislation to limit it--like in Texas where new unconstitutional restrictions would have severely limited access to care by creating undue burdens and medically unnecessary regulations for clinics."

"Today, the Supreme Court said "enough is enough' and I'm glad they did. A right is only a right if it can be used, and the Supreme Court's ruling in Whole Woman's Health ensures that women around the country will have access to the care they need. This ruling reaffirms that a woman's constitutional right to choose cannot be needlessly and cruelly chipped away by political foes."
