Ayotte Cosponsors Bill to Assist States and Public in Tracking Sex Offenders

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today announced that she is cosponsoring the Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act of 2016 (S. 2613), a bipartisan bill led by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) to improve state registries of sex offenders and bolster the efforts of federal, state and local law enforcement. S. 2613 reauthorizes the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, which was signed into law in 2006. This legislation cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee last month and is now being considered by the full Senate.

"Children are the most vulnerable among us and sadly, are targeted all too often by sexual predators. As New Hampshire's former Attorney General, I worked extensively with victims and believe that we need to continue to support information sharing efforts to help prevent these horrific and tragic crimes," said Senator Ayotte. "I'm pleased to cosponsor this bill that will strengthen state and local law enforcement's ability to improve sex offender registries."

The Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act will help support the efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service, as well as state and local law enforcement. The bill also authorizes the Sex Offender Management Assistance program, which provides grants to state and local law enforcement agencies to improve their information sharing capabilities, and the Jessica Lunsford Address Verification Grant Program. The bill is supported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
