Ayotte Welcomes EPA Release of PFOA, PFOS Health Advisory Standards

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today released the following statement regarding the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) release of new health advisory standards for PFOA and PFOS levels in drinking water, set at 70 PPT.

"I am pleased that the EPA has answered my repeated requests and released the new health advisory standards for PFOA and PFOS levels. New Hampshire residents deserve to know whether or not their water resources are safe. I will continue to monitor the increasing instances of potentially dangerous PFOA and PFOS levels in water resources in several communities across our state and ensure that the EPA is working with local officials and communities to take every action possible for the safety of all Granite State residents."

In March, Ayotte wrote to EPA to urge the Agency to expedite the release of a new health advisory standard for the chemical PFOA, which she reiterated in another letter to the EPA earlier this week.

In April, she met with local officials from towns experiencing water contamination issues and sent another letter to EPA that raised several questions and concerns, as well as renewed her call for the expedited release of the new standards. Also in April, Ayotte wrote to EPA to encourage the Agency to address the Select Board of North Hampton's request to test for contaminants within the Coakley landfill and the watershed testing sites.
