Ayotte: "Veterans Are Not Disneyland Tourists"

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte released the following statement today regarding reports that Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert McDonald compared the length of times veterans wait to receive care with the length of time people wait for rides at Disneyland.

"I am shocked and outraged that Secretary McDonald would make such a callous comparison between veterans who have died waiting for care at the VA and tourists at Disneyland," said Senator Ayotte. "The secretary said that wait times aren't a valid measure of performance, but I'm sure the families who lost loved ones waiting for care would disagree. It is unacceptable that our veterans are still dealing with delays and long waits for care, and the VA should be doing everything in its power to focus on solving this problem - not making excuses and dodging responsibility."
