Ayotte Applauds Senate Passage of Bill to Track Sex Offenders

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today applauded the Senate passage of legislation she cosponsored, the Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act of 2016 (S. 2613), that would improve state registries of sex offenders and bolster the efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement. Introduced by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), this bill reauthorizes the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, which was signed into law in 2006.

"As a mother and former Attorney General, I know that we must reauthorize the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act to keep our children safe from sexual predators," said Senator Ayotte. "That's why I'm grateful to my colleagues in the Senate for swiftly passing this legislation that will strengthen state and local law enforcement's ability to share information and improve sex offender registries - protecting our children and keeping our communities safe."

The Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act will help support the efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service, as well as state and local law enforcement. The bill also authorizes the Sex Offender Management Assistance program, which provides grants to state and local law enforcement agencies to improve their information sharing capabilities, and the Jessica Lunsford Address Verification Grant Program. The bill is supported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
