Today, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte issued the following statement after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech before a joint session of Congress.
"I was honored to attend the joint session of Congress today with Prime Minister Modi. The United States and India enjoy significant diplomatic, military, and economic ties, and our two countries are natural partners-sharing a commitment to democracy as well as a belief that we must oppose international terrorism. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will continue to work to deepen and expand our partnership with India in support of our mutual economic and national security interests.
"As the partnership between the United States and India grows, it will be important to continue to speak candidly with one another when we disagree. I will continue to urge the Indian government to better protect the human rights of its citizens-including the rights of Indian women and girls," said Senator Ayotte.
