Calls for Energy Independence This 4th of July Weekend

TOLEDO, OHIO - U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) broke ground today at the new, first-ever ethanol and bio-diesel fuels facility in Northwest Ohio at the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority's (TARTA) main Central Avenue garage. Kaptur put a $1.5 million federal investment to work locally to promote the use of alternative fuels for area mass transit system and school bus fleets to replace traditional, all petroleum-based fuels.

"Through the use of new fuels, we as a region can power a new future for fuels that will replace our reliance on imported petroleum," said Kaptur, member of the House Appropriations Agriculture Subcommittee. "Renewable energy holds the power to make us energy independent and will create new jobs at the same time."

"As gas prices hit the high marks, America needs this declaration of energy independence," continued Kaptur. "This is the type of visionary project that not only builds America forward but puts the revenues in the pockets of local farmers and fuel processors, not in the hands of foreign oil regimes."

Kaptur was joined by Mr. Jim Gee, General Manager, TARTA; Dr. Frank Calzonetti, Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development; and David MacPherson, co-founder of H2 Systems.
