Issue Position: Defender of Our Nation's Veterans

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016
Issues: Veterans

Jerry Moran has worked to hold the Obama Administration accountable for serious problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), problems which have gravely impacted veterans' access to quality health care. He has been a tireless advocate of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act.

Jerry Moran understands how important it is for us to honor the commitment of our nation's veterans by supporting our military personnel. As a member of Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, he has been and will remain on the forefront of the effort to reform the VA and hold its leadership accountable. Our veterans deserve a VA that is worthy of their service and sacrifice.

Especially in a diverse and rural state like ours, Jerry Moran has sought to create new avenues of access to health care for our nation's veterans. When many service members were forced to drive hundreds of miles or wait weeks, if not months, for care, Jerry proposed legislation to allow veterans who lived more than 40 miles from a VA hospital or Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, or who faced a delay of more than 30 days, to seek care with their local doctor.
