Bacon Announces Support For "Pain-Capable Unborn Protection Act," Voices Disappointment in Ashford Flip-Flop

Today, Don Bacon, a Republican congressional candidate for Nebraska's 2nd district, voiced support for The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which is a ban on abortion of an unborn child who has been alive for 20 weeks or longer. Last night, United States House of Representatives passed this bill and similar legislation is being considered in the U.S. Senate

"I strongly support The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. I'm pro-life and I'm encouraged that Congress acted last night to help protect the unborn," said Bacon. Moreover, scientific evidence is overwhelming that an unborn child past 20 weeks has the ability to feel pain and the vast majority of the public believes that aborting a child at a late stage during pregnancy is flat out wrong."

Last night, Incumbent Democrat Congressman Brad Ashford voted against the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This vote reveals that Ashford has changed his mind on prohibiting abortion after 20 weeks. In the Nebraska Unicameral, Ashford voted in favor of a 20 week abortion ban and even highlighted how an unborn child in that stage feels pain and can be saved.

"During Tuesday's late night debate State Senator Brad Ashford of Omaha, who describes himself as pro-choice, argued that Flood is right. "There is no question there is fetal pain," said Ashford, the Chairman of the Legislature's Judiciary Committee. "It is clearly apparent that Brad Ashford has changed his mind on prohibiting late term abortion and now sides with Washington Democrats like Nancy Pelosi," said Bacon. "The people of Nebraska deserve an explanation as to why Ashford changed his view on this important issue. Why did he change his mind?"
