The Senate Appropriations Committee today approved the FY2017 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Bill with funding for the U.S. Department of Treasury, Small Business Administration, the federal judiciary, and a variety of independent federal agencies.
The $22.4 billion measure is $1 billion below the FY2016 enacted level, which required making targeted investments to encourage small business growth while strengthening efforts on counterterrorism, cybersecurity and agency oversight.
"This legislation represents a very good effort to fund federal agencies despite budget constraints. The actions of these agencies affect the day-to-day lives of Americans, which makes our funding and oversight of them important," said Appropriations Committee Chairman Thad Cochran (R-Miss.). "I thank Senator Boozman for his leadership in writing this important bill."
"This bill represents important steps in our commitment to protect taxpayer dollars while improving our country's ability to fight terrorism, combat heroin and prescription drug abuse and improve accountability and transparency," said U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-Ark.), chairman of the Senate Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee. "These investments will help provide the services taxpayers depend on."
