Issue Position: Medical Marijuana/Recreational Use

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016

My mother, who passed away several years ago, would have done anything to have access to an organic alternative to minimize the pain she suffered daily because of her illness. Her alternative was to ingest 80 pills a day to alleviate her pain, which severely diminished her quality of life. I wholeheartedly support the use of marijuana, issued legally as a means to manage pain for chronically ill individuals. On the matter of recreational use, I am concerned that it could lead to more addictive use of harder drugs and place a burden on local police departments that are already working to capacity. I am still not persuaded that recreational use is the best way to go, but will be closely studying the initiatives that qualify for the November ballot on the issue of legalizing marijuana in California.
