Issue Position: Affordable Housing

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016

I am a longtime advocate for affordable housing -- especially in the Bay Area where the cost of home ownership and renting is extremely high. As Mayor, we are requiring that all prospective developers at the Concord Naval Weapons Station build a minimum of 25% low to moderate affordable housing units in every plan they put forward. We are also planning for affordable housing specifically designed for seniors on fixed incomes. Working families, our young people, returning veterans and seniors will all benefit from these policies. I believe we should also be offering incentives to developers to build more affordable housing, including the use of "granny units" that can be affordable rental units for students and seniors alike.
