Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Co-Chair of the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change and a member of the Safe Climate Caucus and the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), released the following statement on the Obama Administration's new standards for dangerous methane pollution:

"I applaud the Administration's new common-sense protections to reduce leaks of methane, a dangerous greenhouse gas that accelerates climate change and threatens public health. These simple and cost-effective actions will curb emissions of methane and other toxic pollutants from new and modified oil and gas wells. I am pleased that the Administration is also moving to address methane leaks from existing operations, and I urge them to move quickly on that critical front. Reducing methane pollution is one essential step in the fight against climate change, and Congress must also act quickly on a plan like the one I've introduced to dramatically reduce carbon emissions."

Congressman Van Hollen is a leading supporter of congressional efforts to address global climate change. His bill, the Healthy Climate and Family Security Act, is an innovative plan to reduce carbon emissions and other pollutants to combat the dangerous effects of climate change while putting more money in the pockets of American families.
