We have all seen some of the immediate impacts of the government's takeover of our health care system, including skyrocketing premiums and fewer options for consumers. But not as many people are talking about the terrible impact it is having on small businesses and their employees across the country. From Entrepreneur:
"According to a study by Field Nation, an online work platform, and Future Workplace, an executive development firm, the law commonly known as Obamacare is leading companies to hire more freelance workers rather than bring on more in-house staff. The study includes responses from 600 representatives in HR and 959 freelancers.
"Since 2016, health care fees including the tax penalty for having uninsured employees increased because of the act, causing 74 percent of companies to opt for freelance hires instead, the study says. In fact, 60 percent said they planned to hire more freelancers in place of full timers."
Seventy four percent. That means a big chunk of hard working Americans have seen their full-time employment drop to part-time or they have been moved from a salaried employee to a contract employee all because of the indirect impact of Obamacare.
As a small business owner, I was not immune to this. Between overregulation by Washington and the housing crisis, Mark and I were forced to make a hard decision: watch our company go under or save it by changing our business model. Thankfully, we were able to salvage our company, but too many other companies were never able to recover. Millions of Americans across the country took a direct hit to their wallet, hampering their ability to care for their families.
Washington needs people who know what it means to make payroll and who understand how overregulation can both directly and indirectly impact small businesses. That's one of the reasons why I'm running for the Senate -- to bring some business sense to Washington. Without fresh faces and new ideas from people who actually have experience in the real world -- not DC career politicians -- Washington will continue to pass laws and regulations that end up doing more harm than good.
