Cortez Masto: I Will Fight to Give Working Families a Raise, Congressman Heck Fights to Give Big Banks a Tax Cut

Statement

Former Nevada Attorney General and candidate for United States Senate Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on the 9th anniversary of an increase in the federal minimum wage being signed into law:

"Nine years ago, a Democratic Congress came together with a Republican President to sign a much needed minimum wage increase into law. But nine years later, dysfunction and gridlock have paralyzed Washington to the point it seems impossible to think Democrats and Republicans ever worked together to give working families a raise. As Nevada's Attorney General, I worked with Democrats and Republicans to pass over 40 bipartisan bills that solved problems for Nevada families and were signed into law by a Republican Governor. It's long past time for the federal minimum wage to be raised -- Americans cannot feed their families off of $15,000 a year.

"Unfortunately, both of my opponents, Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck, oppose raising the minimum wage. Congressman Heck has spent half a decade in Washington siding with his party's bosses against Nevada families. But while Congressman Heck opposes giving working families a raise, he sponsored a bill in the Nevada legislature to give the Big Banks a tax cut, and even voted to shut down the federal government. Unlike Congressman Heck, as Nevada's next Senator, I will put Nevada families first, not my party, and focus on solving problems like raising the minimum wage."
