Catherine Cortez Masto Endorsed by Nevada State AFL-CIO

Today, the Nevada State American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) announced its endorsement of former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto to be the state's next U.S. Senator. The Nevada State AFL-CIO is the state federation of labor that represents over 200,000 members of 120 unions throughout Nevada.

The AFL-CIO highlighted Cortez Masto's commitment to solving problems for Nevada's working families like raising the minimum wage, ensuring women are paid equal for equal work, and stopping job-killing trade deals. This stands in clear contrast with Cortez Masto's opponents, Congressman Heck and Sharron Angle, both of whom would stand with their Party bosses in Washington over Nevada working families.

"There is no question that Catherine Cortez Masto is the candidate who will fight for our state's hardworking families," said Danny Thompson, Executive Secretary Treasurer of the Nevada State AFL-CIO. "Catherine has spent her career solving problems and working across party lines to get things done. She will fight for the middle class and union families. In contrast, her opponents Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck support failed Republican policies that crashed Nevada's economy and sent countless Nevadans to the unemployment lines."

"I'm honored to have the support of the Nevada AFL-CIO for my campaign for Senate," said Cortez Masto. "I will always stand with them in the fight for more jobs and higher wages. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for my opponents, Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck. Just last year, Congressman Heck voted in Washington to fast track a job-killing trade deal that was negotiated in secret. In contrast to Congressman Heck, as Nevada's next Senator I will work with organized labor and members of both parties to solve problems and create good-paying jobs here in Nevada, not ship them overseas."
