Catherine Cortez Masto and Southern Nevada College Students Hold College Affordability Roundtable

Statement

Today, former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto joined students from colleges in southern Nevada for a roundtable on issues facing students, specifically college affordability and student debt. This roundtable follows the launch of the "Students for Cortez Masto" Steering Committee which includes a group of Nevada college students who will work with Cortez Masto on policy solutions for issues facing college students and graduates.

"Every Nevada student deserves the opportunity to pursue education after high school and it is unacceptable that the skyrocketing cost of college is preventing that," said Cortez Masto. "As Nevada's next Senator, I will fight for commonsense measures to increase college access and affordability, like increasing grant and scholarship opportunities, and allowing students to refinance their student loans. This stands in clear contrast with one of my opponents, Congressman Heck, who has voted to increase student loan interest rates and voted for reckless Republican budgets that cut Pell Grants. Instead of fighting for measures that would help Nevada students and strengthen our state's workforce and economy, Congressman Heck and Sharron Angle would put the Koch Brothers and their Party's bosses in Washington ahead of Nevada students."
