At the University of Nevada, Reno, Catherine Cortez Masto Launches "Students for Cortez Masto" Steering Committee

Today, former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto joined with students at her alma mater, the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), to launch her campaign's new "Students for Cortez Masto" Steering Committee. Cortez Masto will work with the steering committee on policy solutions for problems faced by college students and graduates, such as college affordability and student-loan debt.

"The cost of college should never get in the way of Nevada students getting a good education," said Cortez Masto. "Since I went to college here at the University of Nevada, Reno, the cost of a college education has increased about 1,000%. As Nevada's next Senator, I will focus on solving problems like college affordability by allowing students to refinance their student loans and making community college more accessible for students in need that work hard and get good grades. Unfortunately, one of my opponents, Congressman Heck, has voted for reckless Republican budgets that cut Pell Grants and would make college even less affordable for Nevada students. Nevada students have a clear choice between my commitment to making college affordable and ensuring there are good paying jobs for graduates, and a Republican like Sharron Angle or Congressman Heck who will side with the Koch Brothers and their Party's leaders in Washington against Nevada students."

"The cost of college should not be the reason a student does not receive a degree after high school. We need leaders who will make college affordable for all students, not politicians like Congressman Heck who voted for cuts to vital programs like Pell Grants. I'm proud to support Catherine Cortez Masto who will fight for Nevada students as our next U.S. Senator."
