While Catherine Cortez Masto Addresses Hispanics in Politics Breakfast, Sharron Angle & Congressman Heck's Anti-Immigrant Policies Would Tear Families Apart

This morning, former Nevada Attorney General and Democratic candidate for United States Senate Catherine Cortez Masto addressed the Hispanics in Politics breakfast. Hispanics in Politics is the oldest Hispanic political organization in Southern Nevada.

At the breakfast, Cortez Masto highlighted the clear contrast between her and her Republican opponents, Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck. While Cortez Masto will focus on solving problems like passing comprehensive immigration reform, increasing funding for education, and raising the minimum wage, Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck share the same anti-immigrant agenda that would tear families apart. Cortez Masto would be the first Latina Senator in American history.

"For too long, the politicians in Washington have failed the American people," said Cortez Masto. "My grandfather immigrated to the United States from Chihuahua, Mexico, and because of his hard work and the hard work of my parents, my sister and I were the first in our family to graduate from college. Everyone should have that opportunity to succeed here in Nevada and across the country. That will only happen if the politicians in Washington stop the partisan bickering and focus on solving problems, not creating them - which is what I did as Attorney General and what I will do as Nevada's next Senator."

"Unfortunately, while I am focused on solving problems like passing comprehensive immigration reform and raising the minimum wage, both of my opponents, Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck, oppose the bipartisan immigration reform compromise that Republicans like Marco Rubio and Dean Heller supported," Cortez Masto added. "Both Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck want to repeal birthright citizenship, support the extreme Arizona "show your papers' immigration law, oppose President Obama's executive actions to keep families together, and would support Donald Trump if he is the Republican nominee. Nevada's Latino community cannot afford anti-immigrant politicians like Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck in the Senate."
