Catherine Cortez Masto Statement on Supreme Court Nomination

Statement

Date: March 16, 2016
Location: Las Vegas, NV

Former Nevada Attorney General and Democratic candidate for United States Senate Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on President Obama's announcement he will nominate Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court:

"The fact that Senate Republicans were considering not taking up this vacancy before the President even announced his appointment tells you everything you need to know about the dysfunction in Washington. The Senate needs to do its job and give Judge Garland a fair hearing. The American people cannot announce they will go a whole year without doing their jobs and still collect their paychecks, neither should politicians in Washington. I am calling on my opponent, Congressman Heck, to drop the Washington-speak and finally tell Nevadans whether he agrees with me that Senate Republicans should do their jobs and take up this vacancy."
