Catherine Cortez Masto Files Candidacy for United States Senate

Statement

Joined by her husband, Paul, former Nevada Attorney General and Democratic candidate for United States Senate Catherine Cortez Masto today formally filed her paperwork with the Secretary of State to run for United States Senate. After filing, Cortez Masto released the following statement:

"I'm running for United States Senate because for too long Washington has been failing the American people. The politicians in Washington continue to put partisanship, gridlock, and dysfunction ahead of solving problems. That's not how we operate in Nevada. As Nevada's Attorney General, I worked with both Parties to solve problems and help Nevadans. I sponsored over 40 bills, all of which received bipartisan support. I'm proud of the work we did -- including cracking down on human trafficking, going after scam artists who target seniors, and taking on the Big Banks which brought $1.9 billion in relief for Nevada homeowners.

"But while I've spent my career working across the aisle to solve problems, the same can't be said for one of my opponents, Congressman Heck. Congressman Heck votes with his Party in Washington 90% of the time. He has voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act dozens of times. Congressman Heck opposes comprehensive immigration reform and voted multiple times to defund Planned Parenthood. He voted for reckless Republican budgets that would slash funding for education and would turn Medicare over to private insurance companies. Congressman Heck wants to abolish the Department of Education and privatize Social Security, even calling it a "pyramid scheme' that "isn't working.' Should he win the Republican nomination, Nevadans will have a clear choice in November between my record of working with both Parties to solve problems and help Nevadans, and Congressman Heck's record of siding with his Party's leaders in Washington against Nevada working families."
