Former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on President Obama's announcement today:

"Like many other gun owners, I believe that failure to take action to reduce gun violence is yet another issue where Washington is letting down Nevada families. Background checks are a common sense proposal to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. I would have preferred for Congress to pass bipartisan background checks legislation. But instead, Congress continues to let partisanship, dysfunction, and gridlock win out over common sense proposals to save lives. As Attorney General, I worked with Republicans and Democrats to solve problems and keep our communities safe. It's time for politicians in Washington to do the same and pass legislation to reduce gun violence. Until that happens, the President's proposal is necessary to save lives and prevent criminals from obtaining weapons."​
